The government has announced that it will commit £1 billion from existing budgets over three years to fund its new Eco Plus program.

A new initiative will launch in April 2023 to help homeowners save hundreds of pounds on heating bills.

According to an article in The Times, the government is planning on offering people living in council tax band A to D cash assistance if they fall ill.

This article says that the government will contribute 75% of the cost of upgrading your home.

The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Rics) says it welcomes the government's announcement.

The government is set to introduce plans next week which will see homeowners given funding for loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, and smart heating controls.

Rics senior public affairs officer Sam Rees praises the government's new plan: “Our organisation has been advocating for a more targeted approach toward energy efficiency funding for several years. We are pleased to see the government's support for residential retrofitting.”

“Our research shows that due to the cost-of-living crisis, consumers are more cautious about spending money on retrofitting. Funding in this space should help ease their financial concerns and get this crucial aspect of the net zero agenda back on track.”

"We advise that homeowners consult a surveyor before doing any home renovations to make sure the work is done properly. The government's promotion of this renovation scheme makes it clear that homeowners should only hire a qualified contractor for the job."

“We welcome the government’s plan to make our homes more energy-efficient and look forward to working with them on this initiative.”
